Stop using a notebook with a cracked screen
If the screen is cracked but still displays an image, it’s tempting to keep using it. Don’t. Liquid crystals leak. Hairline cracks spread. Pressure from closing the lid can drive shards into the panel ribbon and damage components that weren’t broken before. Power the notebook off, close the lid carefully, and bring it in.
What we look at during diagnosis
When you book a notebook screen replacement at our Perth workshop, our technicians check:
- Is only the panel cracked, or is the digitiser/touch layer cracked too? Touchscreen notebooks are pricier to replace because the assembly is fused.
- Has the hinge been damaged? Drops that crack screens often crack hinges. A new screen on a broken hinge won’t last.
- Is the LCD cable or ribbon damaged? Sometimes the panel itself is intact but the ribbon is torn.
- Are there motherboard knock-on faults? Severe drops occasionally damage the GPU or video output. We test before quoting.
What affects notebook screen replacement pricing in Perth
The biggest factor is the panel itself. A standard notebook LCD is genuinely affordable. A premium ultrabook with a 4K OLED touch panel is much pricier — sometimes the panel alone is a significant percentage of the repair. We always tell customers honestly: if a screen replacement on an older notebook isn’t economical compared to a replacement device, we say so. We’d rather lose the job than have you spend on a notebook that won’t last.
